Not only a beautiful venue
for your wedding but plenty to do and see for your guests
Variety of accommodation
– within the medieval walls of the town, all within walking distance of one
another, there is plenty of accommodation on offer. Your guests can choose from a selection of
hotels ranging from one to four star to simpler B&Bs. Alternatively, for
those who would like to stay in the countryside outside town there are many
beautiful places to stay in the hills, some with stunning views of Orvieto.
Restaurants, trattorie, pizzeria
– Orvieto has an abundance of extremely good restaurants and trattorie for a
town of its size. Being the first city to embrace the ‘Slow’ movement it offers
an excellent choice of eateries and of course is the home to Orvieto Classico,
a world famous wine. The people of Orvieto, as in most places in Italy, are
very proud of their local cuisine and will offer you dishes made with the best
local ingredients prepared with care and often generations of experience.
Bars – there
are many bars to choose from in the picturesque medieval piazzas and back
streets of Orvieto, whether you want a relaxed aperitivo before dinner or a
post-prandial drink maybe listening to live music there is something for everyone.
Hairdressers, manicures, beauty
treatments, massage – Should you or your guests decide to pamper
themselves a little before or after the big day there are numerous places to go
to make sure you look and feel at your best! All are within easy walking
distance of wherever you may be staying in the town.
Shops, markets, gifts, wine, UPS –
Shopping in the medieval streets of Orvieto is a pleasurable experience even
for those who prefer to avoid shopping altogether. Small, individual shops offer everything you
may need in terms of gifts, ceramics, food and wine to the more useful items
for every day needs to UPS and courier services.
Museums, history
– There are numerous museums, art galleries and the elaborately decorated
theatre all in the historic centre of the town for those who wish to explore
the city’s rich cultural heritage. One of the most fascinating tours one can do
is to explore the subterranean world of Orvieto with its seemingly endless
network of underground tunnels, galleries and caves that honeycomb the rock
underneath the city. During its some 2500 year history these underground areas
have variously been lived in, worked in and provided shelter during some of the
more turbulent times of the town’s past.
Sports, theatre, concerts
– wind-surfing and sailing on nearby lake Bolsena, tennis courts, local
swimming pool, horse riding, hiking excursions, caving, bike hire. Teatro Mancinelli, concerts in cathedral and
local churches
Central position to visit other town
- Orvieto is centrally located on the Italian peninsula
in the region of Umbria. It is conveniently situated close to the main A1
autostrada that links Rome and Milan as well as being on the central railway
route with fast trains to many major cities.
There are frequent fast trains to Rome and Florence and by road it is
easy to explore many of the major sights in Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio in a day
such as Rome, Florence, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo although a day is hardly
enough to do them justice. As well as the larger cities there are many smaller
gems to visit such as Todi, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza and Spoleto. With
so much to see many people decide to add a few days before or after the wedding
to take the opportunity to visit these exceptional cities and towns as well as
exploring the lovely countryside which offers some of the most stunning scenery
in Europe.
